Even before I found out I was pregnant for the first time, I was fascinated by pregnancy and childbirth.  It is simply the most incredible thing a woman’s body can do, and I have been amazed by the powerful impact childbirth has on a new mother and the people closest to her.  Birth can bring power to some, and leave others feeling powerless.  I decided to become a doula because I want to support women in the transition to motherhood.  I wish for every woman to have the most positive experience she can.  Having another woman who has experienced birth and the difficulties that the postpartum period can bring is invaluable.  In short, I want to help both mothers and babies have the best beginnings possible.    

I have been blessed with two beautiful children: Mason, who was born in July 2006, and Cassandra, born in October 2008.  My husband and I have been living in the Sullivan Heights area of Surrey for three years where I have been fortunate to work on a part time basis since the birth of my son.  Prior to becoming a doula, I taught for eight years as a secondary teacher for the Delta School District.

not as my person,
but as the Miracle itself

of human birth

don’t set her aside
nor cast her off as disabled,
or ever less woman;
Revel with her
feeling her firmness
knowing her softness
Carve her rare beauty
in smooth white marble
Look upon her.
